Which antioxidant vitamins provide powerful protection against free radical damage in the body?

Consuming a wide variety of antioxidant vitamins and minerals may be the best way to protect your health from free radical damage.

Free radicals are thought to play a role in many health problems, the aging process and atherosclerosis being just two. They react with chemicals in the body and, in the process, interfere with the cells’ ability to function properly.

Antioxidants can help minimize or stop the formation of free radicals in the first place, and keep the oxidative chain reaction damage caused by free radicals to a minimum.

Here is a list of some of the best vitamins and minerals…

Vitamin C- Protects LDL cholesterol from oxidative damage and is one of the most important antioxidant protectors of LDL.

Vitamin E: Several studies have reported that vitamin E reduces the risk of heart attacks.

Lutein: Helps prevent macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.

Lycopene – Helps protect against prostate cancer.

Coenzyme Q10: Helps protect the body from free radical damage and helps preserve vitamin E.

Here is a list of some important herbs that help against free radical damage…

Ginkgo – May help prevent atherosclerosis and support the brain and central nervous system.

Turmeric: Protects against free radical damage, reduces inflammation, and protects the liver from toxic compounds.

Bilberry: Can prevent cataracts and help people with macular degeneration.

As you can see from the list above, there are many vitamins, minerals, and herbs that you should probably be taking to combat free radical damage in your body. I find that instead of taking the many pills mentioned above, it’s much easier to take a high-quality multivitamin that has all the antioxidant vitamins and minerals your body needs in one pill.
