Starve yourself for the sake of fashion – NO!

The only constant in this world is change. Cliche, but it’s true. It applies to almost everything, but it applies more to fashion. Fashion trends change from time to time. Change of trend means change in your wardrobe. Therefore, changing your wardrobe means that you will have to buy new clothes so that your wardrobe matches that of other people who, like most women, like to be “in style”.

You might read in a fashion magazine that suede flats are so so last season and ankle gladiator wedges are all the rage for this fall. It doesn’t matter. You’ll find yourself heading to a boutique to buy your new pair of ankle gladiator wedges, right? And guess what? When winter comes, it will be “the last season” again.

Then what do you do? You go to the store again and buy another pair that is “so this season.” Then the next season rolls around and your new pair is out of season again and never stops. The cycle continues until you find your closet filled with a ton of pairs that you can’t even remember when you wore them…or if you ever wore them, all for the sake of being “in” at all.

Actually, you can be “in” all the time. You only need to remember one word all the time: recycle.

You don’t always need to update your wardrobe with what’s new and what’s currently in style. What you need are those that always stay “in” no matter what season comes.

Like jeans, for example. Trust me, they are ALWAYS in. You just need to know what kind of jeans you should wear for what. Jeans change in style, but you can always wear them at any time of the year and for any occasion, even some formal gatherings. They never go out of fashion for the simple reason that they are comfortable, easy to combine and cheap.

Classic pumps are also ever present. You can wear them when you go to work, school, church and of course to parties. It goes with everything and who cares if you wear them every day? If people notice in such a way that it offends you, why do you care? It’s a mind over matter thing. You don’t care, they don’t matter.

Simply put, splurge on clothes, shoes, and accessories as much as you like. There’s nothing wrong with that (as long as you can afford them, of course). Just make sure when you buy that it’s a really good buy, lasts a long time, and never goes out of style.
