Hit crisp iron shots time after time with these 3 easy-to-follow tips!

It seems that most golf writers want to help you with your driver and putter, and while these are undoubtedly important aspects of the game, iron play often gets lost in the shuffle. Here I want to share with you 3 tips that will help you hit crisp iron shots every time you go over the ball. Follow these 3 tips and you’ll be shooting for lower scores.

1. The first thing to do is check the position of your ball. Too many times I see people who have the ball too far back or too far forward in the stance. This leads to a variety of inconsistent shots. Putting the ball too far forward will cause you to try to “pick” the ball into the air, leading to you hitting it. On the other side of the equation, putting the ball too far back in your stance causes you to “hit” the ball and not swing correctly.

2. Once you have the correct position on the ball, you need to focus on the rhythm of your swing. People seem to overlook golf swing tempo, but it is a vital component to any good golf swing. Tempo sets the stage for proper mechanics, and the importance of mechanics cannot be overstated. Try to rock back and forth at the same rate, and you’ll start making crisp iron shots.

3. The third thing to focus on is golf swing mechanics. Irons are designed to get the ball airborne, yet most amateur golfers try to get the ball airborne instead of letting the club do the work. Try to keep your head down and hit the ball down to make crisp iron shots over and over again. Remember that a simple golf swing is a good golf swing!
