Fretboard Parts: What They Do

Finger board: The finger skateboard without wheels and other accessories is known as a finger board. The deck is where all the parts come together. It will generally have curved ends known as kicks and a curved body called a concave.

Trucks: Trucks are used to connect the wheels to the deck. The truck has two pieces a top and a bottom. The top of the truck has threaded pieces to attach the wheels.

Wheels: The wheels are attached to the top of the truck. The wheels on a fretboard can be basic shaped plastic with a hole in the center, or molded plastic with micro ball bearings. Either way, all the wheels serve the same purpose in giving the board the ability to roll.

Risers: Risers are the small plastic pieces that can be found under the lower truck. The riser is used to create more pop when doing a trick, giving the rider more height when doing tricks.

Bushings: Bushings are pieces of hard plastic or soft PVC that are woven between the upper and lower shafts. Often the hubs will be mated with washers, using the two together creates a more authentic skateboard look.

Pivot Cups: The two parts of the truck are connected with a center pivot and a master slot. When bushings are added, often the kingpin and spline will become disconnected. The pivot cup is used to close the gap by holding the two pieces together.

Grip Tape: Standard gritty or foam grip tape covers the top of the fingerboard deck. The rider uses the tape to ensure a firm grip on the board with their fingertips. The foam grip tape has the added benefit of being more comfortable for long sessions.
