Ten home decorating ideas for instant gratification

Do you ever find yourself looking around your house and thinking bored?

Especially now that the winter months and the holidays are right around the corner?

Add more style to your home and get ready for your friends and family at the same time with these home decorating ideas.

  • one. Add an area rug: Area rugs can instantly enhance the appearance of a room with a burst of color and/or pattern. Try rotating an existing rug (rugs “read” lighter one way and darker the other) or tilt a rug you may have straight.
  • 2. Add warmth to your windows. If you currently only have one valence in the window, perhaps now is the time to add the panels. Conversely, if you only have panels, add a swag over the top of the bar. Add trim to the inside edge of some panels or bullion fringe to the hem. Placing more layers of fabric on the window in the colder months will insulate and keep it warmer. If you don’t have any window treatments, put up a simple valence for a pop of color, perhaps in the kitchen with vintage tea towels?
  • 3. Keep your home organized: Ok, so it might not sound like home decorating ideas, but let me tell you, the more organized and tidy your house is, the better it will look and the more comfortable it will feel. Edit some of your stuff completely or move some items from room to room for variety.
  • Four. Try a new lighting: Easily update your rooms with some new lighting. It’s amazing how much more homey a room looks and what a difference it will make. Position your lighting in a triangle using accent lighting as well as general and task lighting.
  • 5. Add colour: There are so many ways to add color to your home. One of the easiest (and my favorite) ways is with cushions. But you may have to buy new bedding. Treat yourself and your overnight guests to new linens for the beds. Plus, new towels are a fun and inexpensive way to spruce up bathrooms. After all, these rooms will be seen!
  • 6. And speaking of pillows: Pillows are a relatively inexpensive way to add a pop of color. Stagger sizes so it’s not so predictable and matching, and to add texture, cozy up on the easy chair with a big Sherpa throw.
  • 7. Books: Books are great to read, but they can be a fabulous accent, and not just at the bookstore. Stack a stack of “coffee table” books on the floor next to an armchair to make a table, or “raise” a vase or other accessory to add height on a side table. Go to library book sales, thrift stores, and garage sales if you don’t have enough. (And who does it?)
  • 7. Decorate your walls: To keep things fresh, add new artwork or rotate your existing paintings, framed photos, sconces, or whatever suits your tastes on your walls. If you have a collection in an arrangement, edit it to show a prominent piece for a cleaner focal point.
  • 8. Redo Dining Chair Seats: If you have upholstered dining room chairs, easily change the look of your dining room with fabric (you don’t need much, so check your favorite fabric store for leftovers) and your staple gun. Or add seat cushions that tie together for a pop of color and pattern.
  • 9. add hardware Home decorating ideas for an instant update and a new look in the kitchen are to replace the drawer and cabinet handles. Shop for hardware in a variety of styles and color options and swap out existing furniture knobs or replace just a few for a custom look. Different style knobs for each drawer of a bedroom dresser would be fun.
  • 10 Add candles: You can try pillar candles of various sizes placed on a decorative tray, or one with a mirrored surface to catch the reflection of the flames. Arrange the pillar candles in clear cylinder vases and fill them with berries of the season.

As you can see, not every home renovation requires a contractor and thousands of dollars, and now is the perfect time to use some of these home decorating ideas to help you prepare for the holidays and the arrival of company.
