Steely Dan – Music with a sense of humor

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker “Steely Dan” have been writing music with a sense of humor since they started an incredible partnership there. With songs that can make you laugh, make you cry, make you think and make you dream, these two brilliant artists have it all seeded. These two guys have amazing chemistry together. “They are made of music”

With a song like “cousin dupree” from the Grammy award winning album “two against nature” released in 2000, about an old keyboard player, an oil tanker driver who returns home to Aunt Faye’s couch to prepare for his next move on The world, when it sees its little cousin Janine walk into the room, it can’t believe how much she’s grown, and all it can say is ay-ay-ay. Cousin Dupree walks around the room in her tiny blouse and wearing her tight pants (“capris”), a style of pants generally worn in hot weather, such as a pair of long shorts that fall above the knees. This song is a lot of fun and yet quite controversial, as in the song, all Dupree wants is to kiss his little cousin Janine.

Steely Dan will go from the fun side to a totally different tangent that can also be very dark and unhappy as a particular song that comes to mind called “Everything must go” released in 2003 from the brilliant album of the same name. This cleverly written song talks about a corporate disaster from the perspective of the corporate guy, about his greatest pain and suffering and about his poor self-esteem being shattered, “because where he goes” to bankruptcy, everything must go, a song that The Ring is so true today, as all the big corporations in the world are struggling to survive in this maddening economy, all must go is a deep and true song, and after it collapses all you can do is light those Luckies (cigarettes) and light the glow. As everything collapses around him

Steely Dan also takes a cynical view of everything “superstitious” with the song “Black Friday”, from the album Katey Lied released in 1975, this song in particular is another beauty. When Black Friday comes, I’ll go up to the door and catch the gray men diving in from the fourteenth floor, when Black Friday falls. don’t let it fall on me, a very clever song.

Steely Dan also takes an in-depth look at Hollywood Glitz and Glamor with the song “Peg” from the acclaimed album Aja. released in 1975 to critical acclaim, one of his most famous albums. The lyrics speak for themselves with this song. I have seen your photo, your name with lights on it, this is your great debut, it is like a dream come true and when you smile for the camera, I know they are going to love it. This song also holds great memories for me personally, as we would call our grandmother Peg. When I hear this song I always think of her, she was a great lady.

So in summary, I hope that everyone who reads this review digs a little deeper into the musical history of probably one of the best musical collaborations of all time, “Steely Dan”. Music with a sense of humor.
