Senior Trip Ideas to Washington DC, New York City, and Atlanta

Class trips are generally focused on educational experiences. There is a different type of trip that still serves a learning purpose: the senior class trip. The senior trip focuses on fun, togetherness, and making memories that will last. After the trip and graduation, many seniors go off to college, the military, or start a career. For many high school seniors, the field trip is the last chance to get together with their peer group to go on an adventure and celebrate their time in high school.

When I plan a senior class trip with any school, I always keep these goals in mind. Along with class trip planners, I strive to incorporate lots of fun and memorable things to make them appeal to the high school senior. This article will outline three major destination cities: Washington DC, New York City, and Atlanta, and suggest senior travel itineraries that work well with this particular age group.

Washington DC: a favorite destination for class trips

When I plan a senior trip to Washington DC, I still include top DC destinations like a trip to the White House and Capitol Hill and a Washington DC Illuminated Tour. To add excitement and fun, I usually suggest a trip to Six Flags America in Maryland, a short bus ride from Washington DC Evening activities might include dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, as most seniors enjoy the Hard Rock music and atmosphere. Another evening activity sure to please high school seniors is a dinner dance cruise on the Potomac River. This is a delightful way to spend an evening in the spring, when most school trips take place, and it also adds romance to the trip. Another night out that is popular with high school seniors is a trip to a Medieval Times dinner theater. The period costumes, the jousting games and the medieval decoration make this type of dinner a memorable event.

New York City: The Big Apple delights high school seniors

A sightseeing tour of Manhattan is a great way to start a senior trip to New York City. For those who want to include a visit to the theme park, Six Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari in New Jersey is nearby and a popular choice. Seniors may also want to catch a Broadway show while visiting New York City. High School Musical is coming to Broadway and for obvious reasons it is a good choice for this age group. Another idea for evening entertainment is a themed dinner at Planet Hollywood. Eating between snapshots and movie clips of Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone and other Hollywood greats is an exciting way for high school seniors to spend the night.

Atlanta: A Wonderful City for Senior Year Fun

Sometimes dwarfed by larger metropolitan areas such as New York City and Washington DC, Atlanta, Georgia is a great choice for any senior class trip. Atlanta has a lot to offer high school seniors. The nearby theme park, Six Flags Over Georgia has Batman: The Ride, a roller coaster that recreates Gotham City and Batman’s underground dwelling. There is also a Medieval Times Dinner Theater near Atlanta for evening entertainment and dining. Students interested in civil rights and African American history may wish to take the Martin Luther King tour. Another exciting activity for senior trips to Atlanta is a visit to the ESPN Zone. Students can dine here and play virtual basketball, ski, drive race cars, or choose from other activities.
