Do Christmas Right-10 Tips to Avoid Gaining Weight

Thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite days of the year to eat. Christmas dinner is only a few weeks away in the US and Canada, and the turkeys and hams have already been purchased and are waiting to be eaten. This Christmas maybe you can be more careful with your diet and your well-being, and I hope that when you see these tips you feel better the next day, while you go shopping after Christmas.

1. Decide what you are going to eat each day in the morning before you start. Think of 3 meals and 3 snacks. No one says you can’t have a snack, then have dinner a little later, and then drop out for a while after that.

2. Get some exercise right after getting out of bed. This will help you focus on your fitness and make you aware of how your body is feeling that day.

3. Drink plenty of water during Christmas day starting in the morning. We all know how important it is to drink water and stay hydrated. Also, the water will prevent your body from feeling hungry during the day and will allow you to feel a little fuller.

4. Eat a small breakfast to set up a day of slow eating. Maybe some All Bran and a banana or some other filling would be nice.

5. Once again, you should have a fairly small lunch.

6. Try to have some kind of snack a couple of hours before dinner, and then a walk. This is your first real chance to make a difference in your eating for the day that can normally be bad. Try to do something interesting and out of season. I love fruit salad, so you can always make a fruit salad and eat it with low-fat frozen yogurt.

7. Eat everything for dinner, but only small portions at each meal. It is not the amount of food that matters but trying all the foods on the table. Remember that you can also have days leftovers in small portions.

8. Take another walk if the weather is nice. The worst thing for me is that after having a big Christmas or Christmas dinner there is no energy output so you end up sitting and almost asleep because of the tryptophan in the turkey and then you don’t want to get up at all. Why not take a little walk around the neighborhood?

9. Dessert. If possible, try to make a dessert yourself, since then you can be sure how good or bad it is for you. My wife is always the go-to for desserts at family gatherings, as she makes things that aren’t too bad for you, always different, and always taste really good. A favorite these days is angel food cake with strawberries and Cool Whip.

10. Try to keep things interesting for the night by having an interactive game to play or having the kids put on a skit. What you want to do after dinner and dessert is to stay away from the habitual habit of snacking even though you are full.

Christmas is a day that people always associate with a lot of food and what I have in mind is that you don’t starve yourself on Christmas but make sure you have a great day and eat healthy snacks to avoid eating too much. lots of heavy food and feeling a little better about yourself the next day.

And to all my friends south of the Canadian border. Have a great Christmas!
