Cleaning a mattress – 7 things to do – 3 things not to do!

How to clean a mattress: 7 things to do and 3 things not to do! :

1. Flip your mattress 180 degrees.

2. Remove any small stains with a mild detergent solution mixed with water. Be sure to air dry the area before making the bed.

3. Use large dry towels to absorb any large liquid stains. Be sure to air dry the mattress or with a portable electric fan. Make sure the entire surface of your mattress is completely dry. This step is extremely important.

4. Use a special mattress cleaner making sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for stubborn stains. Don’t forget to test a small part of the fabric first.

5. Take advantage of the use of a mattress cover. Mattress covers really get rid of bed bugs!

6. Get in the habit of flipping your mattress every 3 months or so and do your best to vacuum it.

7. Take advantage of a mattress protector to eliminate the need for additional mattress cleanings. As you can see, it is much easier to clean a mattress protector than it is to clean a mattress. Makes life easier, that’s for sure.

3 things you should not do when cleaning a mattress:

1. Never use any type of dry cleaning solution to clean your mattress.

2. Avoid using baking soda on a wet mattress because it will start to form a paste that can be quite difficult to clean.

3. Do not put your mattress in the washing machine. It is best to clean with a hose or in a bathtub. Do not forget to close the valve during flushing. For general cleaning, it is best to give a quick scrub with Formula 409®, BioClean™ All-Purpose Cleaner or other general household cleaner.

For very dirty mattresses, I recommend buying a new mattress. Obviously it will be worth it. Do you know a good mattress store? Do your homework, especially online to find a reputable store near where you live. Start googling and educate yourself on the topic of the importance of having a good mattress for health benefits.

Don’t just visit any store in your local area. Make sure you go to one that has free delivery along with installation. Ask about their disposal policy and also if they have a fast overnight delivery service.
